Our latest project, At The Hop! culminates this weekend with a FREE celebratory dance event at The Strand Centre in Dawlish.For the last few months our young trainees have been out and about meeting the local residents of Dawlish and recording their memories of dancing in their youth. Our brilliant trainees have spent the last week with Luke from Wandering Tiger recording all the wonderful memories from the Dawlish residents that we have worked with over the past few months. The finished audio program will be premiered at our celebratory event At The Hop! on the 25th Jan at The Strand Centre in Dawlish from 3pm - 6pm. It's FREE! 'At the Hop!' launch: The Strand Centre, Dawlish, on Saturday January 25th 2025 3-6PM. This is a FREE community celebration for all the family about dancing in the 1950/60s.Local young artists have recorded the memories elderly Dawlish residents to create a 30-minute audio programme. The event will feature live local band – ‘Ruby & the Rascals’ playing covers from 50s/60s, plus DJ Phil Winters spinning vinyl tracks from the era. There will be dancing, a dress-up rail, plus milkshakes, tea and cakes!Doors open at 3PM & the audio recording will be launched at 4PM (it will then be made available as an MP4 to all the participants, local schools, museums & libraries as a learning resource).The project aims are to develop pride in place, encourage social cohesion & intergenerational relationships, improve employment opportunities for young people and provide a celebration of the town in which we live.Come and join-in the fun!This project is funded by the UK government as part of the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, through Teignbridge Arts Projects. ...
